Editing

A few months back I had created a post about over editing. Since then I have had people ask me what type of editing I do.
I think what most don't realize is even with minimal editing, editing itself can be time consuming. I have often had customers ask if they can just have their pictures as is.
Although I never do lol, I always "want" to respond, "Did Picasso hand over his paintings before they were completed?"
Photography is an art.
Both behind the camera and on computer. Every photographer has their own camera settings and their own style of editing.
My goal in editing is to edit the least amount possible. To not alter the picture all together but to "enhance" the picture and nothing more. Here is a great example of what I would consider a simple edit but very much needed to help a picture look better.

2012 Contest

Composite Images

So many people have asked me why I don't do the propped baby head pose. As cute as it is this is why I don't. What many non photographers don't realize is that particular pose(as well as MANY others) is what is called a composite image. I am not a fan of composite images or excessive editing and I just feel this is more editing than I would like to get an "unnatural" pose when there are many more poses that are more natural that are just as cute. This picture is from last year but thought it was a great example of a natural pose similar to the head propping pose except this one is one image no composite editing.

 I am in NO means saying composite images or the photographers who choose to do them are a bad thing, they just aren't my "cup of tea". If you choose to search out a photographer who does PLEASE find one that does them safely. No shot is worth hurting a baby!

Other natural poses throughout my time with photography.

Arms crossed. Beanbag with a slight slant. Mom or Dad on both sides.

 Bean bag flat. Baby on side.

 Bean bag dipped in with baby laying on back. 

 Baby on side. Baby's arm is tucked under head for support.

 Again baby's arm is tucked under head to give it a lift off of the scale. Mom directly next to baby. 

Probably the most natural pose a baby can do!

~~What's NEW for 2013~~

I have been blessed to have an AMAZING first year in business. Thank you to every single person who made that possible!!!

There are a few things that will change this coming year that I feel are necessary for me to be able to continue providing quality portraits.
I feel I should blog a few of these changes so that people may plan in advance.

As of January 1st, 2013 BecKaLs Photography LLC new policies will be as listed below:

1.As much as I LOVE my job, I too have bills to pay for my company therefore

BecKaLs Photography LLC package rates will be rising so that I may continue to provide quality portraits for others to enjoy. 

2.There will now be a %50 non refundable deposit required to schedule a photo shoot. Your deposit will be subtracted from the total amount of your shoot and the remaining balance is to be paid in full the day of your shoot.
I have a family and my time is precious. Deposits are to help guarantee that my time will not be taken for granted. If for some reason something were to arise and you are not able to make your original shoot you may reschedule to the next available bookable day or request a gift certificate with no loss of deposit. 

3.BecKaL's Photography LLC will no longer be offering printing rights with packages. I do offer professional printing through Miller's Professional Imaging

Their prices are more than reasonable and the quality is beyond comparison to retail stores.
I WILL however continue my policy of NON profit from prints. The prices I show you are exactly what Miller's charges me. I put a lot of time and love into my pictures for customers and would like to know what is being displayed shows true to my work and not whatever the retail stores come up with in an hour. 

There will be a few minor changes outside of this but nothing as foundational as these three. Thank you again to those who made my first year so successful. I look forward to continuing to capture those precious memories for others to enjoy.

2 Princesses

Oh fall why do you have to leave so quickly and leave such a cold friend behind such as winter. This was the first shoot that I could tell winter was right around the corner. BOOO!

 Though of course I LOVE working with babies and kids I must admit I do enjoy the occasional break to enjoy a different angle of the camera creativity and being able to focus more on a concept, angle or pose than getting all kids to smile at once or keep a baby asleep.

Gender Announcement!

This is the newest thing for maternity and oh how I LOVE the concept. Revealing what gender your baby is with pictures.

The balloons has been done a million times. 

 However I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to come up with something I have NEVER seen before and this is what I came up with:
